AgriValues Retail Beef Prices - Updated January 2025

December retail #beef prices decreased from the historic high in September 2024, averaging $8.08/lb for the year-end. This is up 🔼2.9% year over year, up 🔼0.3% over November’s price of $8.06/lb, and up🔼16.9% over the 5-year average for December.

High prices are here to stay until the national cow herd starts to rebuild and heifer retention starts making an impact. Along with resuming imports from Mexico due to the temporary stay from New World Screwworm detection in November.

Until final protocols are set, it doesn't seem imports will resume until details are finalized. Trade can resume with Mexico to help alleviate the historic price highs that are weighing on consumers’ wallets.
